About
With support from Panedeni (Duo)
A master of the kora and a bearer of one of the most revered musical lineages in West Africa, Jali Bakary Konteh is the grandson of Alhaji Bai Konte and son of Dembo Konte—legendary griots who helped bring Gambian kora music to the world stage.
Born into this deep-rooted tradition and raised in the griot culture of The Gambia, Jali Bakary carries his family's legacy forward with grace, innovation, and magnetic stage presence. His playing blends the intricate beauty of traditional kora with his own rhythmic and melodic creativity, honouring the past while shaping the future.
Described as "an exceptional purveyor of the Gambian tradition" (Afropop Worldwide), Jali Bakary has captivated audiences at WOMAD, Roskilde Festival, the Barbican, and beyond, performing across West and North Africa, the UK, and Europe.
Whether solo or leading his band Minyanta, or as part of the dynamic 13-piece Balimaya Project, Jali Bakary brings powerful artistry and soul to every performance. His debut album Konteh Kunda introduced his vision to the world, and a much-anticipated second solo release is on the horizon.
Expect an unforgettable evening of shimmering kora melodies, rich tradition, and visionary musicianship from one of West Africa's most gifted modern griots.

Panedeni is a genre-blending musical project whose name combines Paned—the Welsh word for "a cup of tea"—with Adeni tea from Aden, Yemen. Fronted by vocalist Yasmine Latkowski, the project explores the intersection of Middle Eastern, Welsh, and English folk traditions, creating a rich, multicultural sound that bridges cultures and languages.
Appearing in duo form at Llangollen Fringe Festival, Panedeni offers a more intimate experience of their music, highlighting Yasmine's captivating vocals and the essence of the band's cross-cultural storytelling. Their work focuses on collaboration and connection, with original compositions blending Arabic and Welsh influences.
