A railway of distinction, reclaimed with care and worked with pride

In a quiet valley beside the River Dee, where the sound of rushing water meets the call of curlew, a railway has returned to life. Once a vital artery of the Great Western system, the line from Ruabon to Corwen was lost to closure in the late 1960s. But the steel has been relaid, the signal arms have risen once more, and the air carries again the rhythm of locomotive breath and rolling stock in motion.

Llangollen Railway is a working heritage line with a serious purpose. It is not a scenic imitation nor a museum in motion, but a faithful restoration of a standard gauge country route. Built to the exacting standards of the Victorian engineer, closed in the wake of rationalisation, and revived through the perseverance of countless volunteers, the railway now offers ten miles of operational track through one of the most captivating landscapes in Wales.

We have a well stocked gift shop at our Llangollen staion with a cafe for light refreshments. At corwen we have a Tuc Shop selling tea, coffee and snacks, with a well stocked 2nd hand book shop. 

Toilets are avalible at all stations. Trains operate every weekend throughout the year and daily during summer months. A number of special events are run each year - Santa Special, Classsic transport, 60s Weekend, Railcar weekend, Real ale trains and Afternoon teas. 

We work along side Fox and edwards events to bring great days such as childrens charecter days and Fish and chip trains.
