Located amongst green fields with beautiful views and in the middle of the Llyn Peninsula. Pen y Maes cottage seems miles away from anywhere but within a short distance of many tourist sites and the beautiful sandy beaches of the north Wales coast. Enjoy the stunning views across the green fields to the hills. Winter grazing sheep and summer cattle graze lazily in the fields whilst the Buzzards ride the thermals above. Wrens and other small birds often perch on the window frames. Tawny Owls nest in the old tree in the car-park and may be heard hooting at all times of the day and night. Stand at the front of the cottage at dusk to see the bats take flight [ apart from winter when they hibernate ]. You will experience the most beautiful sunsets and ever changing sky. On clear nights be amazed at the starry skies. Watch for the August and January meteor showers and more at other times of the year. The university town of Bangor ( and Anglesey Island) is an easy 45 minute drive away if you are planning to attend the future July university graduations. For family and friends gatherings, there are two caravan sites for tourers and tents just along the main road from the track entrance if your family or friends wish to stay there whilst you have the luxury of the cottage ;) One of them now has a pub which is open to non patrons. Facilities: This self catering property stands on its own with parking for three to four cars to the rear. It has three good sized bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen-diner including dishwasher and washer/dryer machine. There is a modern shower room with walk-in shower containing a 10.5kw electric shower. There is also a modern basin and toilet. A vanity area is situated opposite the shower room. The living-room contains a large flat screen Smart TV with USB etc. slots and a DVD player. The property has super-fast broadband / wifi connection. There is efficient electric heating ( with timer and sensors ) throughout the property plus two multi-fuel stoves, one in the kitchen-diner and one in the living room. There is a starter pack of fire wood, kindling. More can be purchased locally. There is a small Londis grocery shop just along the road in Y Ffor / Four Crosses plus a petrol station. The town of Pwllheli, where many shops and eateries will be found is only a short drive by car/bike. There are also buses from Y Ffôr. Have a look at a map to see that the property is conveniently central on the Llŷn. Bed linen, towels, fast Internet access and electricity are included. Please be economical with the electricity and turn off heaters, lights etc. when out. The efficient electric heaters will quickly warm the rooms on your return. The super-king bed can be separated into two singles. If four single beds are required, please request this when booking your stay as all beds are made up prior to your arrival. The cot is a travel cot for infants up to two years old. Bed guards are available. This cottage may be unsuitable for the infirm due to the varying floor levels/steps. Some doorways are shorter than normal and have been retained for interest and authenticity. Entrance track.It is a rough farm track(not tarmac) and runs from the b4354 and is half a mile long. It can seem very long when you first use it. Under 10mph is advisable due to the uneven stoney surface . Please CHECK WITH YOUR HOST before booking if your car has very low sport suspension or trims. The centre and verges are soft grass but slightly raised . Guest access Check before booking that your car has enough ground clearance for the access track.You have the use of the whole dwelling plus a front raised garden facing the setting sun. A secure rear parking area . Please only park at the rear of the property. Let your host know how many vehicles will require a space. [Note that the farm track is unsuitable for low slung vehicles under 160mm clearance ( sport suspension, small wheels etc.) . But don't miss out, check with your host if you think that your car is very low or has additional body trims. The track surface changes with the seasons and the weather]. There is also a front fenced patio area plus a rear slate chippings yard with picnic table.Guests may also walk along the track (can be muddy) as far as the stream at the northern end. Further on from this point is a private working farm and unsuitable for guests and the fields and outbuildings are private. Unlimited Super-fast broadband which works in all rooms. A 49"Smart TV. The track to the cottage runs from the b4354 and is exactly half a mile long. The first two parts are owned by two different farmers not connected to the host. It is rutted, has grass verges and a slightly raised centre line (see previous note and guest reviews). It is partly flanked by water filled drainage ditches so please stay mainly central. Travelling below 10pmh is essential to prevent stones flicking up. Other things to note Sorry but no pets allowed. The cottage is too near to cattle and sheep. Please see information about the rough access track . Bed linen and towels are always washed at high temperatures and then stored for at least one week before re use. Ironing also kills germs. The host is the only cleaner. This means that a cleaner is not rushing the work going from property to property. If you intend to walk in the national park and up Snowdon please wear suitable walking shoes or boots and go prepared for all types of weather and emergencies. It is easy to not realise that Snowdon is a mountain not a gentle hill walk and walking surfaces can be hazardous.
