An ascent of Tryfan via its North Ridge is without a doubt one of the finest mountaineering grade 1 scrambles you can do in the UK!

It's no walk, there is steep hiking and hands on scrambling all the way to the summit of Adam and Eve at 915m above sea level.

This is the best single guided mountain day you can have, simple!

Where is it?
Tryfan is part of the Glyderau Range of mountains in the North West of the Snowdonia National Park. The A5 road runs in the bottom of the Ogwen Valley that splits the Carneddau Mountains to the North, with the Glyderau Mountains to the South. Our Route will be up the North Ridge of Tryfan right from the valley floor.

It's definitely best to go with a guide on your first visit, once you get to 'Piccadilly Circus' there are a multitude of directions to choose from and they aren't all easy grade 1!
Tryfan is also home to the 2 big pillars that crown the top of the mountain, Adam & Eve, some people even jump from one pillar to the other! but with a drop of a few hundred feet on one side you would need nerves of steel and some very sticky soles on your boots!

Where do we meet?

Initially our meeting point for onward travel will be the Ogwen Valley Visitor Centre, there's a map below, please park in the bays on the left side of the parking area, this is short stay, 20 mins. We will then drive to a parking area closer to the start of the days hike.

Who is this guided mountain scramble suitable for?

We want to share out love of the mountain with everyone, but we do recommend that you have had some good general hill and mountain hiking experience, including time out in the hills and mountains in less than perfect weather.

You will have a good level of fitness allowing you to hike and scramble up steep mixed rocky ground with loose scree and steeper sections of grade 1 scrambling.

This may not be suitable for your very first experience of a bigger mountain scramble, depending on your ability, have a look at the hiking page where you can ascend Tryfan from the easier Southern route and Far South Peak.

Leaders and Ratios

All of our guided mountain hikes and scrambles are led by fully qualified Mountain Leaders or Mountaineering Instructors with excellent local area knowledge. They work and live full time in the mountains of Snowdonia.
Maximum ratios on this hike and grade 1 scramble is 6 clients to 1 Mountain Leader.

What kit do I need?

You will need clothing and footwear suitable for the weather that can be encountered in the mountains at the time of year for your guided hike or scramble.
You should also have a packed lunch and drinks in addition to your normal hill kit packed away in a small daypack.

Boots wise we would highly recommend stiffer mountain boots suitable for scrambling, general hiking boots can be far to bendy in the soles and also might not have rubber soles suitable for grip on wet rock, look for stiffer boots with Vibram soles, you can always call or email us for advice on footwear before you buy, but a trip in to Cotwsolds Outdoor should be useful for advice and information.

Average length of this guided mountain scramble is 6hrs.
