Caernarfon
Caernarfon has a superb setting with the mountains of Snowdonia as a backdrop and wonderful views across the Menai Strait to Anglesey. The town is home to mighty Caernarfon Castle built in the 13th Century by Edward I as a royal palace and military fortress.
The Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon) is Snowdonia's newest railway and runs through spectacular scenery from beside the castle into the heart of the Snowdonia National Park.
The town has a wide selection of shops with a mix of High Street names plus small independent retailers. At Doc Fictoria, set alongside the beautiful harbour looking out over the Menai Strait and Anglesey, you'll find the Celtica Retail Centre, a pub, restaurants and a cafe.
Just outside Caernarfon you'll find Inigo Jones Slate Works possibly the last surviving example of a fully operational Slateworks in North Wales.
