Mediaeval Banquet at Ruthin Castle

Mediaeval Ruthin Banquets

Ruthin Castle provides a superb stage for hosting themed mediaeval dinners modeled upon the legendary feasts the Earl of Warwick held at the castle in the 16th century. Guests are recommended to start their evening of merriment with an accompanied tour of sections of the 13th century walls, dungeon, legendary whipping pit and drowning pool*. Revellers then assemble in the Presence Chamber for the partaking of bread and salt, age-old symbols of hospitality. Fully costumed Ladies of the Court and the Court Steward escort guests into the lofty Banqueting Hall where they entertain, sing (in both Welsh and English), jest and lead the evening's feasting with daggers and fingers accompanied by a tasting of mead**.

Ruthin was Britain's first castle to throw open her doors for revellers to enjoy a unique mediaeval style banquet over 40 years ago. Today the tradition of historical fun continues with a four course meal, a toast drink of Celtic Mead and an entire evening of mediaeval entertainment and Welsh culture.

Dates being added all the time, please call for details.
