Welcome to our family run B&B. Enjoy staying in our comfortable rooms and wake to a range cooked breakfast, that will set you up for a full day exploring the many attractions of Snowdonia and the Coast.
Bod Gwynedd was built in the middle Victorian period and was extended at the rear of the property just before the end of the 1800's. The house is certainly one of the oldest in this part of the village, as old maps of the area show no other buildings in close proximity, until the house had been extended, in approximately 1895.
The slate used to build the house was more than likely taken from the Hafod Las quarry, on the slopes of the tree covered hills at the rear of the property. Stone from this quarry at this time was taken by cart to Trefriw quay (some six miles from Betws and ten miles from the coast) where it was placed aboard steamships and taken down river to Conwy and Deganwy quays and then aboard larger vessels out to the world.
Bod Gwynedd is situated on the fringe of the pretty village of Betws-y-Coed (affectionately referred to as "Betsy" by many of its visitors) and just a stones through from Afon Llugwy (River Llugwy). Further up the A5 toward the mountains and the end of the village, is the 'Miners Bridge', used by miners to cross to the workings on the opposite side. This can make a great circular walk if you follow the river back down to the village on the opposite side and then walk back up the A5 to us after a visit to the many shops in the village.
